[fanfic] Reflection of Who I Used to Be

Just who was this person standing before him?

Kurogane wasn’t sure just who he was looking at. Was he looking at the magician who was a proverbial pain in his ass or was he looking at the broken shell of a man who was bordering on losing everything dear to him. It was like the ninja was meeting Fai again for the first time and the irritation that he’d felt then was bubbling up inside of him now.

They had just defeated Ashura and recovered the Princess’ feather. Everything should have been fine. The pork bun should’ve been transporting them to another world. The four of them should’ve been on their way and continuing their desperate searching for Sakura’s feathers. Instead, Celes was falling apart from the inside and Fai was at the very center of it.

Four of them would be able to escape Celes today but it just wouldn’t fly for Kurogane. Everything had become a blur at that point. There was too much going and there stood Fai urging him to forget him and go ahead with continuing their quest. Didn’t the damn magician realize that they were friends now? The ninja wasn’t about to dessert his comrade, his friend like this and their words were a jumbled mess in his memory by now.

Something had come over Kurogane as he cut off his own arm to leave it in Fai’s place. The ninja hauled the other out of the center of Celes in the nick of time as they were transported away from the dying world. Fai was coming with them come hell or high water. Magicians and Space Time Witches be damned to the underworld and back. Kurogane wasn’t willing to lose any more people when he had to protect them. He’d lost enough strength on that damn world as it was. Losing an arm imbued with Fai’s magic was a necessary sacrifice.

A sacrifice that left him weak and delirious with fever. He now stood in front of a mirror staring back at someone who didn’t seem like himself. In fact, Kurogane is looking at the man that he used to be. The man who had lost his way and forgotten what true strength was. He’d learned much in his travels with Syaoran, the Princess and Fai that looking back upon that surly ninja who was adamant in feeling that everything going on around him had nothing to do with him was just so different from the man he was today.

He remembered why he’d wanted strength in the first place and found new people to protect with that strength. There was a magician hiding behind a mask that wasn’t what he truly was, a Princess with no memories searching for who she was and a Kid possessing more true strength than he had possessed at Syaoran’s age. Little by little, Kurogane had come to aid the three on their quest more often than he wanted and naturally, the four of them had formed a close bond.

“You’re not who I am anymore,” he said to his reflection and watched as it faded away. “I have the power to protect my friends and Princess Tomoyo and I will never let myself go back to the way that I was. My strength may have faded after killing Ashura but the Gods be damned if I let those who would do them harm take them from me again.”

The mirror remained and to break it would surely mean he could escape whatever dream he was trapped in. With a dangerous smirk on his face, Kurogane broke the mirror in his dreams with ease. His world was slowly getting lighter by the second before he was staring up at the ceiling half awake.

It was time to face the person he had become and was still becoming.

[original] Chronicles of Enceladus – Four

Six months had passed in the blink of an eye as Zosimus entered Jem’s small, undecorated room and woke the little girl.  She whined sleepily and curled away from his touch as the lights flickered into life at the snap of his fingers.  He watched with a smile on his face as she burrowed into the blanket.

“Jem, it is time to get up,” Zosimus chided her softly as he began pulling the white comforter away from her.

She did not like the mornings one bit.  They were the coldest time of the day for her and it was always a bit of a war to get the little girl out of her bed in the mornings.  Most children who were sent down from the Cribs only needed the heating pad of their beds on for the first few weeks.  In Jem’s case, they had remained on because of her aversion to the cold.  She was more accustomed to it than six months previous but when the cold snap had begun, Zosimus had had no choice but turn it back on for her.

“I know that you are cold but I have warm clothes for you to wear,” he said soothingly.  “Today is your initiation into the Angbroda and you will be sent away if you do not go through with this.”

[original] Chronicles of Enceladus – Two

Jem’s eyes opened slowly and took quite some time to focus as she reached out a hand to feel for the barrier that blocked Daddy from her.  She felt warm and comfortable wherever she was.  There was a faint beeping in the background that was easy to ignore before a strange face appeared over the edge of the bed she was placed in.  She sat up with a start before slumping forward.  It was her first time experiencing gravity and it left her feeling ill as she was gently placed back into her original position.  Even those simple movements left her dizzy and tired.

“Zosimus,” a voice called out.  “Your charge is awake.”

“Ah,” a gravelly voice responded.  “What is her condition?”

[original] Chronicles of Enceladus – One (rewrite!)

And here I am, giving my story of The Child of Destiny another go! This is my work for Camp NaNoWriMo. Check the links page for further details! Thoughts so far would be greatly appreciated. 😀

The planet was Enceladus.  It is a world comprised of ice that is surprisingly teeming with life.  The people of other worlds had always thought that it was an inhabitable world.  That is, until the domes were built in the numerous craters that meteors had created over the millennia.  The planet was farthest away from the sun of its system and was the only planet of its name.  Its days were short and only those who were deemed strong enough after initiation could live on its surface.  The lone moon of the world orbited on an abstract route and made the days pass in a lazy manner.

Even as the lazy moon as it was called by the people of Enceladus lived on its surface, several stations orbited the planet that were teeming with young life.  It was there on those station that the young were bred for habitation.  They began their studies at an early age and did not hesitate to send the weaker children to a lone station farthest from the planet.  These children were special and were deemed to have special gifts that would be vital to the prosperity of their world in the near future.  These little ones were far and few between.  They were pale skinned, light haired and bright eyed children who were sent to a lone man for care.

[fanfic] Reflections in the Wind

Written using the prompt for Squall “Sometimes I drive so I can be alone.”

Sometimes I drive, so I can be alone.  Some may find it pitiful for a man who has everything that life could ever offer him to want to be alone when he could be immersed in a life of glitz, glitter and more litres of champagne than I could ever count.

[NaNoWriMo 2011 Project] Of a Demon in My View: Chapter Three

No one had ever had a stronger will than Diablos. In fact, he was nigh near untamable. It was part of the reason he kept getting locked away. But not this time. This time he was going to make sure that he stayed out by getting the best of his keeper. He wouldn’t allow her to tame him. He wouldn’t be enslaved to her or to his lamp any longer. He would be free at last, truly free. And he would burn that damn scroll so that he couldn’t be put back in his lamp. Or…His yellow eyes shifted back to his prison briefly. Or he could get rid of the lamp. Continue reading

[NaNoWriMo 2011 Project] Of a Demon In My Veiw: Chapter One

Summary:  Edgar gets more than he bargains for when he gives Rydia her birthday present: an old lamp with an ancient eidolon inside. Diablos/Rydia/Edgar; warnings posted per chapter

Warnings: None

It was an old, dusty thing, covered with tarnish and what looked to be rust. Rydia stared at it, the dull surface making the color of her hair seem dirty in her distorted reflection. She took a small breath, blowing away some dust with a gentle puff of wind. The tiny particles invaded her nostrils, making her sneeze. A white handkerchief was dangled over her petite shoulder, offered by her attentive husband. She took it, looking back briefly to smile at the blonde, then wiped her nose with one swipe of the cloth.

[fanfic] Well Earned Rest

“We’re finally home!” Selphie exclaimed as she rushed into the apartment with elation.  She kicked off her shoes and flopped backward onto the couch in the living room as Irvine’s laughter filled the room.

“Of course we’re home Sefie,” he said casually.  He was working on yanking off a boot as he sent his hat flying over to the couch.  “I think we’ve earned the time off.”

“Totally!” the perky brunette replied with a yawn.  “I’m bushed Irvy.”

“I can tell darlin’.” Continue reading
